I have a large collection of Hi-Res music files. I've stored them on a LaCie 1TB USB drive formatted as ExFAT. I've used dbPowerAmp to convert from AIFF and store all files in WAV format.

Sync 3 sees the drive and plays the music (sound is awesome). Only thing is that the metadata doesn't seem to be coming through. I am unable to browse by artist or album.

Anything I need to know to force Sync 3 to index the files on my USB drive?

Did the metadata get stripped out when the files were converted to WAV format?

Can you save a few as MP3 files and see if the system recognises the file metadata then?

Yes you are right - turns out the metadata is being stripped in the conversion from AIFF to WAV. I'm using dbPowerAmp on a Mac to do the conversion and I haven't found a way to make it keep the metadata. Do you know of a good batch conversion program for Mac?

I have a 2021 Lincoln Corsair Grand touring.  I attempted using a San Disk 1 TB SSD that I had ripped several of my CDs to in WMA (lossless) format.  I keep getting an error that says the device isn't supported.  I got a USB and ripped the same CDs in the same format to it and they play.

Is there something I need to do to get the SSD to work or is it not possible to use a SDD?

Make sure it is formated as MBR and exfat

The SDD is formatted to exFAT.  I'll have to check on whether it is MBR.

I tried it again last night.  I don't believe there is enough power going through the USB port to power the SSD.  A USB works fine formatted the same way.

If you are putting in the center consol, I would assume it should be.... but then maybe your 1T takes a lot more than what is there...

The SSD should use only about 2.5W when reading.  But a typical USB3 port only outputs about 900mW as far as I could quickly research.  So that might indicate you are correct and the car cannot power the SSD.

I have a 512GB USB stick that is working fine.  I've ripped 30 CDs so far.  Only about 1,000 more to go.

Hi RH. Perhaps there is a reason I am not aware of, but why don't you just copy the music files from the SSD directly over to the USB stick/drive? Set and forget, instead of ripping each CD individually.

Good luck.

If only it were that easy.  😁  I haven't ripped any of them to the SSD other than the ones I wanted to use as a test.

My 2019 Nautilus had a CD player in it.  My 2021 Corsair does not.

I am retiring at the end of this year so I will have plenty of time to sit at my laptop and rip CDs to the stick.  If I run out of room, I'll buy another stick.

Hi RH. Aha...now that is a very good reason. 😉

Enjoy your upcoming retirement and good luck.

I have about 18,000 songs on a 256gb flash drive.  They were all ripped to MP3 format at 320kbps.  Can't say how many CDs that totals but just buy the biggest flash drive you can afford.
