Neaphoto 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2016 I know this might be a long shot but does anyone know if it is possible to add the Ford Factory Navigation after the fact. I bought a 2016 F150 XLT with Sync 3 off a lot and it didn't have navigation and I have come to the conclusion that I would really rather have the nav on the 8in Sync screen then my small garmin screen. So if anyone has added navigation after the fact or have any knowledge if this is even possible i would greatly appreciate it. I know you can add nav to a 2015 F150 with MFT but i can't seem to find anything for a 2016 with Sync 3.

Neaphoto 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2016 thanks, That really stinks. So i'm guessing this is a scam then? http://www.oemautopartsco.com/products/ford-sync-3-gps-navigation-upgrade-with-carplay-auto
punch-card 6 Report post Posted August 29, 2016 (edited) Search this forum for this company, I pretty sure this is the company that upgrades the Sync2 hardware to Sync 3 hardware. But also remember, you probably don't have all the hardware to do Nav, antenna... etc, but that is a guess. You might send them an email, but I sense the impression of a "Rock and a hard place". $$$$$ thanks, That really stinks. Neaphoto 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2016 Yea, thats what it sounds like to me to unfortunately. Talked with my Ford dealer and they said the truck would actually need a completely new wiring harness. It's amazing they would go from just needing to change a module behind the screen of a 2015 to needing a brand new wiring harness for 2016. Oh well I guess that's just my luck. You would likely have to swap out your current unit for one with the nav plus you would need antennas. I have dealt with that company for my MFT to Sync 3 upgrade on my 2015 Mustang and really wish I would have dealt with forum user OEMRadiosolutions aka Jesse out of Dallas instead. He is on a couple forums and his support is top notch. I would email him as he will absolutely know what you would have to do to get nav on your system. From my understanding the local dealerships in Dallas use him for after sale nav upgrades for their customers. As a matter of fact that company OEMautopartsco uses him to program their stuff anyway so I would recommend dealing directly with Jesse. I didn't head my own advice and I am regretting it daily. Anyway, his email is OEMRadiosolutions@gmail.com and you can find alot of his posts over on the mustang6g.com forums. If you direct message him over there (or maybe on here, not sure) he generally gets back to you almost immediately.
ben senise 14 Report post Posted August 31, 2016 If your sync 3 gets updated with Android auto, you should probably be able to use Google maps on the big screen. That's what I'm waiting for. 2 punch-card and wintrmte reacted to this

I will get ahold of Jesse and see what he thinks and see what all he can do for me! If your sync 3 gets updated with Android auto, you should probably be able to use Google maps on the big screen. That's what I'm waiting for. Yea i am waiting for the Sync 3 v 2.0 update as well so i can use carplay. Though the reason why i was wondering about factory nav is right after i got the truck i took it on a 3k mile trip to the coast of Maine and didn't always have cell service. So that made me realized that if i didn't have cell service i wouldn't have navigation when using my phone through car play.
ben senise 14 Report post Posted September 1, 2016 . So that made me realized that if i didn't have cell service i wouldn't have navigation when using my phone through car play. Google maps now allows you to download maps on your phone or tablet. I'm not positive since I haven't tried it but I think you can get navigation while using the downloaded maps and no cell signal. I keep meaning to try it but haven't.

As stated he might have to swap out your APIM which is the brain behind your screen. It's a little pricy but worth it!
