11/30/20 - New SYNC 3 update available (SYNC v3.0.20204). Updated.
bbf2530 posted a topic in SYNC 3 General Discussion
Hi gang. There is a new SYNC 3 update available. It is listed as "SYNC v3.0.20204". Go to the Lincoln or Ford Owners website to download. I have downloaded the file to my USB drive and will post back when I have time to take the required 30+ minute drive (instructions state it will take 25-35 minutes for this update). Can also state that the instructions have been made much clearer and understandable for this update. Good luck everyone. -

Hi HaroldZen and welcome to the Ford SYNC Forum. Unfortunately, no...SYNC 3.0 can not be factory upgraded to SYNC 3.4, and will not be factory upgrade-able in the future. Good luck. -
Hi dsanfili. No, it will not reset the NAV maps version. It will be retained. Same with the SYNC 3 system version etc. You will probably need to reconnect your phone to your vehicle, reset favorite stations etc. The Owners Manual also explains how to perform a Master Reset, what it actually does, etc. If you do not have your hard copy, you can download the PDF version here: https://www.fleet.ford.com/parts-service/resources/owner-manuals/ Let us know how you make out and good luck.

2008 Ford Edge SYNC update (green LED version)
bbf2530 replied to geterdone's topic in SYNC 1 & 2 General Discussion
Hi geterdone and welcome to the Ford SYNC Forum. It looks as though your 2008 Edge is not equipped with SYNC. It was an optional feature back then, and yours does not seem to even have the small SYNC display, let alone the full NAV screen/SYNC display. Out of curiosity...Does your 2008 Edge even have a USB port? Good luck. -
Iphone Bluetooth to SYNC with Voice-Activated Navigation
bbf2530 replied to misterg's topic in SYNC 1 & 2 Cell Phones & Technical Assistance
Hi misterg. As advised in your other thread, first perform any available/recommend system updates to see if they correct the issue. Once you do that, post back with the results. You can try disconnecting the battery if you wish. Although I do not normally like to recommend that as a fix-all, it is worth a try if you want to try and avoid the cost of a Dealer visit. Keep us updated and good luck. -
Hi misterg. Perform any available/recommended system updates. Good luck.

Hi Ajmal. Then my only thought would be to ensure any setting that offers an automatic time/date update is enabled. Otherwise, unless another member has some insight into this issue, you will probably need a Ford Dealer to adjust this for you, or diagnose any problem causing the incorrect date to display. Let us know how you make out and good luck. .
-
Hi Ajmal. Yes, you mentioned in your first post that it is an Explorer XLT. But again, you still have not stated what model year, and settings/procedures can sometimes vary from one model year to the next. Unless someone else here can jump in with the correct procedure, it would be quicker for you to find the answer in the SYNC section of your Owners Manual. Or if you do not have your hard copy, you can download the PDF version from the website I previously linked to and research it there. Keep us updated and good luck.
-
Hi Ajmal and welcome to the Ford SYNC Forum. I am not sure what you are referring to by the "wrong date". Also, you do not mention which model year your vehicle is. If whatever you need to adjust is owner adjustable, it will be covered in the Owners Manual. If you do not have your hard copy, you can download the PDF version here: https://www.fleet.ford.com/parts-service/resources/owner-manuals/ Let us know how you make out and good luck.

New maps coming Sep 2022
bbf2530 replied to alcohenusa's topic in SYNC 3 Navigation & Technical Assistance
Hi bnewt. Lincoln/Ford always recommend fully updating SYNC first, then performing the NAV maps update. And in some cases, it is absolutely mandatory to update SYNC first. So that is what I would recommend. 😉 Let us know how you make out and good luck. -
Hi Agreer and welcome to the Ford SYNC Forum. Assuming we are discussing SYNC 3.4 updating? Ford does not normally issue any sort of detailed release notes with SYNC updates. The extent of what will normally be stated is some version of...(paraphrasing)..."To enhance the SYNC 3 experience, this update contains bug fixes and/or compatibility updates for new iOS and Droid operating systems." There is a compiled list of updates somewhere that I have seen, but it simply consists of the update numbers, no specific information as to what each update actually contains or addresses. The latest update always rolls up all previous updates, so all we need to do...or basically can do as owners, is check for updates on the appropriate Ford or Lincoln SYNC 3 update website. Ford: https://www.ford.com/support/sync-maps-updates/ Lincoln: https://www.lincoln.com/support/sync-maps-updates/ On a related note for us gear-heads and software geeks: With the release of SYNC 4 and the soon to be released Google based system, SYNC 3.0/3.4 are now legacy systems. SYNC 3.0/3.4 updates do not include or introduce new features. As mentioned above, the updates simply consist of bug fixes and compatibility updates for new iOS and Droid releases. So if everything is working properly in your SYNC 3 system, there is no big rush. Sort of the "If it ain't broke don't fix it" philosophy. That being said, it is still a good idea to periodically check for and install any available updates, if/when released. As an FYI: Even when the systems were new, SYNC 3.0/SYNC 3.4 updates were not and are not released anywhere near as often as often as Windows/iOS updates. It is not a weekly or monthly thing. So while you can check as often as you like, there will rarely be an SYNC 3 update available. So a good rule of thumb (to save our sanity) is check once a month or two months. For example, there has not been a SYNC 3.0 update for my 2018 MKZ in ~2 years. So again, SYNC 3.0/3.4 updates are only released to fix bugs. On the other hand, SYNC 3.0/3.4 Navigation Map updates are released once a year. Normally around August/September. Also, keep in mind this is all referring to SYNC 3.0/3.4. SYNC 4 is an entirely different animal. Let us know how you make out and good luck.

Hi Python. If the Ford SYNC website shows you are up to date, then your current version is the latest version compatible with your vehicle. Good luck.

Hi Wiremaniac. I don't have access to my vehicle at the moment, so off memory: Try going into Settings, then look in the "About SYNC" section. Let us know how you make out and good luck.

Sync 3 1.0 to 3.0 - Now Issues
bbf2530 replied to cp1084's topic in SYNC 3 Cell Phones & Technical Assistance
Hi cp1084 and welcome to the Ford SYNC Forum. Concerning Bluetooth: Try disconnecting your phone and deleting the SYNC Bluetooth connection on your phone. Then reboot you phone. Then perform a SYNC Master Reset (instructions on how to do so are in your Owners Manual). Then re-pair your phone to SYNC. See if that works. If you do not have your Owners Manual hard copy, you can download the PDF version here: https://www.fleet.ford.com/parts-service/resources/owner-manuals/ Concerning Apple CarPlay: Did Apple CarPlay work in your vehicle before you performed the update? Someone will correct me if I am wrong, but I don't believe Apple CarPlay was available in early SYNC 3 versions (such as yours) and yours can not be updated for that feature. Let us know how you make out and good luck. -
Hi BB. Sorry, but I think we kind of talked past each other there. Let me try again. I understand that a re-installation attempt did not work, but... * Did the SYNC factory reset get the SYNC system working properly again (and then it froze again on the re-installation attempt)? Or did the Master Reset do nothing? If the SYNC Master Reset (and the previous battery disconnect) did nothing, and a fresh SYNC update download and installation attempt did not help, then you will probably need to make a service appointment. Hopefully another member will jump in with more advice, if they can help. Keep us updated and good luck.
-
Hi BB. Did the SYNC factory reset get the SYNC system working properly again or make no difference? Did you have the vehicle running the entire time of the installation, or did you turn if off during the installation? If the SYNC factory reset allowed the screen to work again, perform another reset, and at least you have a working system for now. Odds are there is nothing earth shattering in the update anyway. Get back to us with more information and good luck.
-
Hi BB and welcome to the Ford SYNC Forum. The first recommendation, just to get the SYNC system up and running (hopefully), would be to follow the instructions in your Owners Manual to perform a SYNC factory reset. If you do not have your hard copy, you can download the PDF version here: https://www.fleet.ford.com/parts-service/resources/owner-manuals/ Next recommendation would be to perform the installation again. But first, do a new download of the SYNC update, do a new transfer to a freshly formatted USB flash drive and perform the installation again. Be sure to follow the instructions precisely to the letter. In addition...There can often be false "You Update is Complete" type messages, so wait at least 10 minutes after any such messages, to be sure the installation does not continue again. And be patient with the installation, giving it a lot of time to finish properly. Next recommendation...To everyone, is to stop resorting so quickly to battery disconnects to solve issues. It can sometimes/often cause more problems than it ever solves. If a SYNC factory reset does not work, then a service visit will probably be necessary. There is little/nothing a Service Advisor can do over the phone without the vehicle being looked at by a Tech. While I am not excusing no callbacks, this may be a likely reason why you are not receiving a callback. Service Department staff sometimes get tired of discussing things on the phone, when the only way to diagnose some issues properly is to have the vehicle examined. Try the SYNC factory reset first. Then try a fresh download and installation of the SYNC update. Hopefully that will fix the issue Let us know how you make out and good luck.

New maps coming Sep 2022
bbf2530 replied to alcohenusa's topic in SYNC 3 Navigation & Technical Assistance
Hi bnewt. Traditionally, SYNC 3 equipped vehicles received 2 free updates (within the New Vehicle Warranty period). While it is possible that varied some by model year, the way to find out if you can still receive this update for free is to input your VIN in the applicable Lincoln or Ford SYNC 3 Navigation update website, as listed in alcohenusa's initial post. The SYNC 3 Navigation update system will then inform you of the update options and cost for your vehicle/vehicles. Let us know how you make out and good luck. -
Hi dkalina and welcome to the Ford SYNC Forum. One issue is your 2015 Mustang is not equipped with a vehicle modem. Also, how did you "update the Sync system from 2 to version 3"? Did you remove the old SYNC 2/MyFord Touch hardware and replace it with all the correct SYNC 3 hardware? Provide more information and good luck.

Hi Yods and welcome to the Ford SYNC Forum. It may help if you provide more informaiton: - What vehicle and model year? - Have you updated SYNC 3 to the latest version available for your vehicle? - When did you purchase your vehicle? - New or used? - Is your vehicle still within the Ford 3 year/36,000 mile or Lincoln 4 year/50,000 mile New Vehicle Bumper to Bumper Warranty? - What model phone do you have? Get back to us with all of the above information and good luck.

2018 fusion APIM replacement question
bbf2530 replied to mcwell's topic in SYNC 3 General Discussion
Hi mcwell and welcome to the Ford SYNC Forum. If you do not have the proper tools to diagnose this issue (most people would not), I recommend you go to the Parts Department of your local Ford Dealer and ask them what the correct part number is for the APIM in your vehicle. Have your VIN handy. While there, you can also get a price. Then take the part number/price and see if you can find a better price from a reliable online Ford Part seller or other Internet sources. Just keep in mind that if you do not have the problem properly diagnosed, you may wind up spending money to unnecessarily replace parts. Keep us updated and good luck. -
Hi Sporter. Most Dealers will not perform and/or work with non-factory/non-factory approved modifications, because there is no manual for those modifications, and it can cause warranty issues which could make them legally liable. Yes, perhaps not for your particular vehicle, but it is simply policy. Some Dealers will, but you need to find the right Dealer with the right techs. Perhaps it is a defective USB hub as mentioned. Hope you can get this issue fixed. Let us know how you make out and good luck.
