  1. Ford still can't get Sync 3 to update over WI-FI and took over 4 MY to even figure out how to update the Navigation (Then used 1.5 years old data). Now they will change to Sync 4 so they can forget about Sync 3, no longer will support it just like the Sync's before got dropped when they came out with Sync 3. But now they can charge you a montly fee for a system that you already paid for when you purchased the vehical. Also to get the music streamed you will also have to pay a montly fee for that. Since a lot of people already pay for music to be streamed to thier phone why would you need or want to pay extra for it to be also streamed to the vehical?, just hook your phone up to the vehical and play the music that way.

I hope that Ford will still allow the playing of music and Apple Carplay or Android from the phone or USB in this new Sync 4.

We already have cloud based Navigation with AppleCarplay and Android which is up to date, Fords will be a year or more old judging on their prior Navigation records.

Also cloud based Navigation doesn't work when your in the mountains or away from cell towers like out in the country roads.

    Hey FG,

Now that you've been using the update awhile have you noticed any glitches?  My update to 19205 broke the equalizer.  All the controls (treble, mid, bass) were centered after the update and they always returned to center after I made adjustments and backed out of that screen.  My volume indicator also stopped working.  The circle with the number inside appears but it always displayed 0 (zero).

I've rolled my system back to 18093 (after doing a system reset to factory) but the volume indicator is still broken.

I checked and my treble, mid, and bass were at centered but that's because I had to perform the master reset. I then changed their settings and shut off the vehical and restarted and they were still as I set them (not centered). My volume control is working fine and displays an increasing or decreasing number in the circle when it's changed. My suggestion is to re-download the software update and re-install it, then perform a master reset before you set up the equalizer. Hope it works for you.

  3. As I stated above I updated SYNC 3 to V3.0.21 build number 19205. Today I connected my iPhone 7 by USB to use Apple Carplay and the phone just kept beeping and then flashing repeatedly.

I had to perform the "Master Reset" on SYNC 3. Then I had to remove the bluetooth pairing and the Apple Carplay setup from my wife's phone and mine and then reconnect the bluetooth for both phones and reconnect Apple Carplay for both phones.

After that Apple Carplay now works again, the speedometer reading that shows in Waze use to be 12-13mph too high, it's now within 1mph of the cars speedometer. I thought that problem was in Waze but apparently it was on Fords SYNC 3 end.

For safety's sake I tried to do the update while driving as I did not want the auto shutoff to brick my system.

The auto shutoff can be temporarly disabled by using the left hand steering wheel controls. It will then automatically turn back on the next time the vehical is restarted.

  5. I just downloaded the update to USB and it is V3.0.21 build number 19205. It took about 3 minutues of driving before it showed it was updating and then about 10 minutes till finished.

I can't find information on what it updated but everything seems to be working fine.

The USB was formatted as exFAT and I followed the instructions for PC.

  6. Ford finally released a update for their Navigation, $109 for download and $149 for a USB mailed to you. Go to this site https://syncnavigation.com/ford/home for the update.

I downloaded it but have not loaded it in the vehical since it says it takes about 1hr of vehical run time. I understand that it is revision NA 1 18. Will post back once I load it in my vehical.

  7. Waze and Google Maps work miraculously well on iOS 12 and CarPlay. Sync 3 displays them both with such smooth frame rates.

Unfortunately, my phone no longer pairs via Bluetooth, and my Sync 3 won't remove and repair. In fact, I'm unable to delete any of the phones period. I tried updating Sync 3 software today via Wi-fi, but only get error messages. Tried alternatively to use USB (exFat, 32Gb), but get error LST_ERR05. Funny how we went from troubleshooting our computers to troubleshooting computers in our cars. Just don't feel like dealing with it. Will let the Ford dealer figure it out.

I know your post is a few months old but I had problems with CarPlay in my 2017 Ford Edge and the only thing that made it work was to do a Master Rest of the Sync3 system. That removes all phone pairing and phonebooks from the Sync3 system. Then you re-pair the bluetooth to your phone and then CarPlay.

  8. I understand that by using your iPhone as a WI-FI hot spot that you could update your Sync3 with that method as long as Ford's WI-FI updating process is working (never works for me on good signal with home WI-FI). But how can that be used for Sync2 MFT when the only update method is by USB?

Ignore question about Sync2 MFT, I just re-read and had miss understood, I now know that you were updating that by USB.

  9. On my 2014 Ford Taurus with Sync2 MFT v3.10 I have just over 3,000 mp3 songs on a 32 GB USB stick formatted as "exFat" which will index in about 15 minutes. I have the song files all at the root level with no folders on the drive and I use ".m3u" files for the playlists. When I use to have the song files in a folder setup by artist, album, song like iTunes uses it took forever for the USB to index. It also would tend to re-index a lot when the vehicle was restarted. With this flat file structure the re-index at the restart of vehicle take about 1 minute. I use iTuneExport set in the Flat mode to copy the playlist that I want on to the USB. With this flat method the only problem is that if you have 2 songs by different artist with the same song name, only the first song will be put on the USB, since it can't have 2 files with the same name.

  10. Map updates for Ford Sync3 are not available. If you go to their site "ford.navigation.com" it says "Thank you for your interest in a navigation update for your SYNC 3 system.

This Product Is Currently Unavailable". I had my Ford dealer check on the map update about a week ago and the Tech there tried and said Fords site was still down and had been down for several weeks. He's had to tell about 20 people in the last month that the Fords site is down.

I've been e-mailing Ford IVT (In-Vehicle Technology) and they say that the map update for Sync3 is not out yet, also that it will only be released as a dealer install. 4 vehicle years (2016-2019) on the Sync3 and still no updates for Navigation.

  11. redden18, a person on another Ford forum told me how to modify the autoinstall.lst to make it install without needing the dealer, but before I used his fix I decided to download the software again from Ford. The new download actually contained the exact same fix that redden18 had given me. I then installed it on my 2014 Ford Taurus and it is working fine. I had sent an email to the Ford IVT team telling them of this problem a few weeks ago, so maybe that prompted them to fix it?

  12. I needed the update so that it shows the complete i485 loop around Charlotte, NC since we travel there a lot. Yes the maps are probably 2 years out of date but they show up on the dash display. Ford never added their applink to the Sync2 MFT like they advertised (they added it to their lower priced Sync without the MFT), that would at least allow Waze to be shown on the dash display.

  13. USB problem with 2014 Taurus on Sync2 MFT.

I changed the "Removal Policy" on my USB's which would allow me to download songs to them quicker, which worked fine. When I tried them out in the 2014 Taurus which is Sync2 MFT they created an error which restarted Sync and would not work. I had to reset the "Removal Policy" from "Better Performance" to the "Quick Removal" setting and re-format the USB's to get them to work again.

  14. I have a 2017 Ford Edge Titanium with NA 1 15 software version V3.0 and the speed limit shows on the center 8" screen near the street name and also on the driver right hand 4.7" display on the far right if that display is in the navigation option. It displayed the same way with the V2.3 that came installed in my vehicle.

Since NA 1 15 is 3 years out of date, there are a lot of roads that don't have their speed limit in the mapping data.

I wish that Ford would put the speed limit display on the drivers 4.7" display on the left side of that display so that it would be closer to the speedometer and easier to see.

  15. I had my 2017 Ford Edge Titanium at dealer today for oil change and tires rotation. While there I talked to their Tech. about map updates, he said that the Ford site is down and just says to check back later. He also told me that there will be version v3.1 for Sync3 released shortly. He didn't know what was in that release though. Hope it has a fix for my Apple Carplay not always working since updating to IOS12 on iPhone 7.

  16. When using Waze on Carplay pressing the microphone icon on the top right of the display and then saying your destination works real well. It works a lot better than the Ford voice recognition.

I keep getting a problem upon reconnecting with Apple Carplay though. The iPhone battery indicator goes from green to white then the phone vibrates and the battery indicator goes back to green. This keeps repeating but Carplay never starts. I tried rebooting the Sync3 system and reloading Carplay on the iPhone and vehicle, but same thing happens. I using the original iPhone USB cable. The only way out of this is to restart the Sync3 system by pressing the Seek+Power buttons and holding them tell Sync3 reboots. This works for awhile but then after a few reconnects it starts over again.

This restart problem was finally fixed by doing a "Master Reset" on the Sync3 system and reconnecting the iPhone to bluetooth and Carplay.
