i also have a '16 and that problem bugs me as well. i have found that if i manually turn off the unit by pressing the power button on the volume dial before shutting off the engine, it keeps its setting. 

yes, in theory you need that on for automatic updates but they are few and far between. better off just downloading the updates onto a USB stick and doing it manually.

i think it may have more to do with re-writing the files rather than how they are organized.

i have found that if i turn off the radio (physically press the on/off button), it saves the setting for the next start.
yeah, a bit of a PITA but better than hearing the AM radio next time i start the car.

I agree it's probably tag or meta data related but it's extremely odd that you likely used the exact same process on all your songs but only this album seems to have an issue. Sure there may be more and you just haven't found them yet.
 
Here's a thought. You said you use MP3TAG for your mp3 files. MP3TAG has an option to remove TAG data. Somewhere in the options, you have to configure which tag data it removes. There are various versions of tag data. Make sure to configure it to remove all versions of tag data. Remove the tag and save the file. Then recreate the metadata and make sure you are using at least MP32.3 or 2.4 tag data. Copy the files to a new formatted USB stick with only that album on it. Test to see if it finds them.

the volume on my system also goes down for a second or two. although i haven't been able to positively identify it, i think it has to do with notifications, e.g. when you get an email or text and get a notification sound. the notification sounds don't play over android auto in my case but i think it kind of mutes the audio for a second or two. it has never bothered me enough to look into it but now that i think about it, i just might.

try turning your radio off before you turn off the engine. That works for me.

i've always stuck with google's phones since they run pure android and get updates as soon as they're out. i now have a pixel 2 xl and it is great on my '16 edge. i had some troubles but they turned out to be the cable.

In troubleshooting, it is often helpful to divide the problem in half. Do you have another phone with bluetooth that you can test with your vehicle and can you test your Note8 with another vehicle?
 
It's not 100.000% perfect, but it helps narrow down the issue to the phone or the car.

These units have a mind of their own. My 2016 edge does this as did my 2009 edge. drives me nuts. you'd think that it would just power on with the same function it had when it was powered off.
 
one thing that helps, at least in my experience, is to turn off the radio before you shut off the engine. then turn it on after you start up the car again. works for me when i remember.

my experience when resetting my phone and sync to get AA to work was that AA does not show up on the sync screen until you actually start AA on the phone.
 
i have learned through decades of IT experience that it is often much more difficult, and sometimes even impossible, to find a solution with systems that don't work until you just start from scratch. what i mean is do a hard reset on your sync and delete AA from your phone. delete all BT pairings from your phone and sync. restart you phone and re-install AA and start again. I don't think you need to do a factory reset on the phone though.

Every time I get in my car and my music source is set to Bluetooth Stereo, the music automatically begins playing. How can I stop this from happening?
I use my Google Maps on my phone for navigation and have the voice guidance play over the car speakers so I need the BT connected and selected as the source. I just don't want Spotify or Google Music to start playing as soon as I start the engine. It's driving me insane.
It's a Nexus 5 running the latest Marshmallow on my new 2016 Edge Ti. My 2009 Edge Ltd did the same thing even when Autoplay was set to OFF and this was on all of the iPhones and Android phones I had for the seven years that I had the Edge.

Make sure you read the Readme file in the Zip file, it has all the steps in there with the approx time it will take for the first & second update files, also make sure you use the same thumb drive for each update like the Readme file says, I thought I was being smart by using two thumb drives, didn't work but after deleting the files for the first update from the first thumb drive and then adding the files for the second part of the update everything worked correctly.

11 Minutes for the first file, 13 minutes for the second file. (non-nav here)

Just purchased a 2017 Lincoln MKZ last week with Sync 3 (rev 2.0) and it has both Apple Carplay and Android auto
But you need to have your iPhone plugged in to the USB port to activate it. And the big downside is you lose the built in maps on the Sync Home screen (which I like) because Carplay wants you to use Apple maps only from the Carplay screen. I would really like to see Apple maps always ON from the Sync home screen when in Carplay or an option to keep using the built in maps since it doesn't use up your phone data. And I wish Google would update their map app to work with Carplay

If your sync 3 gets updated with Android auto, you should probably be able to use Google maps on the big screen. That's what I'm waiting for.
